Uber Eats Introduces Purple Pizza Project To Combat Domestic Violence
Domestic violence against women is a very serious problem and having to stay home due to the pandemic has made things a lot worse. Being locked down with abusive people does not only harm women physically but also takes a severe toll on their mental health. At such times, it has become nearly impossible for them to escape it and calling helplines without alerting their scourge can be very difficult.
To help fight domestic violence, Uber Eats launched a campaign called the Purple Pizza Project, named after the colour of the ribbon that represents domestic violence and inspired by a call made by a woman on a 911 helpline. Uber Eats added a new Purple Pizza section on their app. This section helps women alert authorities nearby about a case of domestic violence and they can even track them. This would appear much like a regular food delivery on their apps, helping them to discreetly report violence against them. It also aids them in finding women’s shelter nearby and provides more information about the issue.
