Maggi, under its 'Desh ke liye 2 minute' initiative, has launched an innovative product that combines convenience with sustainability. The company has introduced an edible fork made from wheat flour, now available with Maggi Masala Cuppa noodles in major metro cities. This new offering is priced at Rs 50 for a 79.5 g pack and is available starting May 2024.
Sustainable Innovation
The edible fork is a result of a collaboration between Nestlé R&D India, a subsidiary of Nestlé S.A and part of Nestlé’s global R&D network, and the Indian start-up Trishula. This initiative is part of Maggi's broader goal to provide sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics, reflecting its commitment to environmental responsibility.
Previous Sustainable Efforts
Earlier in 2023, Maggi introduced foldable, compostable forks in India. These forks were developed in collaboration with Nestlé’s Institute of Packaging Sciences in Lausanne, Switzerland, Kaneka India, and Nestlé India R&D. The introduction of these foldable, compostable forks is projected to reduce approximately 35 metric tons of plastic annually.

Rajat Jain, Director of Foods at Nestlé India, commented on the launch; “At Nestlé, it is our continuous endeavor to discover ways to build a better future for our consumers and the planet. This innovation is a testament to our global R&D capabilities showcased in the use of cutting-edge technology to develop the first-of-its-kind two-piece fork design. We are confident that this launch will also set a strong precedent for greater greener solutions.”

Our teams are constantly exploring novel packaging materials and cutting-edge technologies to optimize the use of plastics across the value chain and create sustainable alternatives that are accepted by local consumers.”
Limited Period Offering
The edible forks are currently planned as a limited period offering, enhancing the experience of savoring Maggi Cuppa Noodles while promoting sustainability. This initiative is a significant step forward in Maggi's ongoing efforts to reduce plastic waste and offer greener solutions to its consumers.
