Shark Tank India, a Sony show that focuses on startups, has sent legal notices to several startups. These notices were for using clips from their pitches on the show in their online ads without permission.

Reactions from Startups

A report by YourStory highlighted that Google and Meta flagged many social media posts and videos on startup websites. These actions often led to content removal or, in more severe cases, account suspensions. At least 18 startups faced such issues after their content, which included aired segments, was flagged.

Guidelines for Content Use

Startups that wish to use any show content should have licensed it from Sony or linked back to Sony's platform or YouTube channel where their pitch was shown. Shark Tank India has allowed companies to share images and videos provided by the show on their social media, but they must not use the show's logos, images, fonts, or videos on their platforms.

Advisory for Participants

The show clarified that phrases like "Approved by Sharks" or any similar statements are not permitted. Participants may only state "As Seen on Shark Tank India" in their promotions.

Mixed Reactions Among Participants

Sparsh Agarwal of Dorje Teas voiced his dissatisfaction on LinkedIn, questioning the motive behind these actions, given that they provide free publicity to the show. On the other hand, GD Prasad of VS Mani & Co supported the legal notices, emphasizing the show's rights to its content. Dheeraj Bansal from Recode Studios also mentioned that many brands wrongly claim their products are approved by the Sharks, supporting the show's stance against such claims.
