The social network once known as Twitter has officially changed to using X.com for all its main systems. This switch means that typing twitter.com in your browser will redirect you to X.com, Elon Musk's preferred domain.

Mixed Results for Users

Depending on your browser and whether you're logged in, you might see different results. A new notification at the bottom of the X login page reassures users that, despite the URL change, privacy and data settings remain the same.

Challenges in Rebranding

Elon Musk's rebranding effort has faced challenges due to this domain transition. Although many elements, like the official account, mobile apps, and subscriptions, have been updated to the new branding, the platform's URLs have stayed at twitter.com until now. The URL changes started in August last year when users noticed x.com links in the iOS app. Last month, Brian Krebs pointed out that this change has increased phishing attacks.

Musk's History with X.com

Elon Musk has a long history with the x.com URL. He started a company with this name in 1999, which later became part of PayPal. Musk envisions this new version of X as an all-in-one app similar to WeChat.
