JioCinema to go Ad-Free?

During the IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals on April 20, an ad on X piqued the audience's curiosity. The ad hinted at a forthcoming plan change, stating, "Change is constant, but your plan doesn't have to be. A new plan coming on April 25th.

The ad depicted a couple watching TV with sports commentary in the background, interrupted by the question, "To aaj kya plan hai?" (What's the plan for today?), to which the couple humorously replies, "Aaj dekhenge series of ads" (Today, we'll watch a series of ads).

JioCinema's Current Plan Cost

While JioCinema's current subscription plans cost Rs. 999 annually and Rs. 99 monthly, the platform still displays ads. Users have previously criticized this practice despite paying for a subscription.

Last year, when JioCinema streamed IPL for free, many viewed it as a customer acquisition strategy expected to transition to paywalls in subsequent years.

Reliance Jio Network has recently acquired a stake in several other streaming platforms like Paramount and Viacom 18. While these ad-free plans are focused on acquiring only the IPL customer base, the move hints at a larger strategy in motion.
