Swiggy has expanded its in transit meal offering for railway passengers across India, adding more locations and giving travellers additional time to plan their food orders. The Swiggy Food on Train service now covers 122 stations nationwide and offers a pre order window that stretches up to 96 hours before the journey.

The latest expansion brings new stations such as Anantpur in Andhra Pradesh, Madurai in Tamil Nadu, Alwar in Rajasthan, Kozhikode in Kerala, Khurda Road in Odisha, Yesvantpur in Karnataka and Gonda in Uttar Pradesh into the network. Travellers on trains passing through these stations can now book meals in advance and have them delivered to their seats.

Swiggy has also extended the advance booking window from 24 hours to 96 hours. This longer planning period allows passengers to schedule meals well before travel, which is particularly useful for families, group travellers and those with specific food preferences.

The Food on Train feature saw strong traction during the recent festive season from 16 October to 03 November 2025, when millions of people travelled across the country.

Ordering patterns during the festive period highlighted the breadth of demand. Biryani emerged as the most ordered item, followed by dishes such as masala dosa and burgers. Pav bhaji, margarita pizza and corn chaat were also popular choices among passengers.

Desserts and sweets formed a significant part of the overall mix, with 35 percent of travellers opting for at least 1 sweet item along with their meal. Favourites included triple chocomelt waffle, tender coconut ice cream, gulab jamun, biscoff cheesecake jar, rasgulla and black forest pastry.

Travellers ordered from a mix of national and regional brands. Haldirams, Paradise Biryani, A2B, Hotel Aryaas, Annai Restaurant, Rominus Pizza and Burger and McDonalds were among the most frequently selected, indicating a preference for both well known chains and local favourites.

Swiggy’s data also showed regional trends. In the north, biryani, aloo paratha, red paprika pizza and aloo tikki burger were preferred. In the south, customers leaned towards dosa, curd rice, pongal, poori sabzi and idli. In the east, thalis and rice bowls were widely ordered, while in the west, pav bhaji and vada pav continued to be strong choices. One customer placed a single order containing 45 items, underlining the role of the service for large travelling groups.

Multiple trains recorded high order volumes, including the Garib Rath Express from Chennai to Delhi with train number 12611, Seshadri Express with train number 17209, Sabari Superfast Express with train number 20630 and Kerala Express with train number 12626.

Deepak Maloo, VP for Food Strategy, Customer Experience and New Initiatives at Swiggy, said food is central to how festivals are celebrated in India, even when people are travelling. He added that with a network now spanning 122 stations and a 4 day pre booking window, the service aims to make every journey feel more familiar and comfortable by offering trusted meal options on the move.

The expansion underscores how pre ordered delivery is reshaping in transit dining and turning long journeys into shared food experiences for passengers across the rail network.
