Senior television journalist Sumit Awasthi has stepped down from his role at NDTV India, ending a stint of nearly two and a half years with the network. Senior industry sources have confirmed his exit.
Awasthi joined NDTV India in July 2023 as consulting editor, bringing with him decades of experience in political reporting and news leadership. At the channel, he anchored the shows Hum Bharat Ke Log and Khabron Ki Khabar, which focused on people centric stories, political developments and deeper news analysis.
With close to twenty five years of experience, Awasthi is widely regarded as one of India more respected political journalists. His on air work is known for its strong grasp of Indian politics, ability to contextualise events and direct interviewing style.
Before NDTV, he held senior editorial and management roles across multiple major networks. He served as vice president for news and production at ABP News, where he first joined as consulting editor in 2018. Prior to that, he was deputy managing editor at Network18 and resident editor at Zee News, working across primetime programming, elections coverage and newsroom strategy.
Earlier in his career, Awasthi was associated with Aaj Tak for almost five years as deputy editor, further cementing his reputation as a familiar face in Hindi news.
