In a landmark global move, Amul has officially stepped into the European market through a strategic partnership with Spain’s leading dairy cooperative, Cooperativa Ganadera del Valle de los Pedroches COVAP. The Gujarat Co operative Milk Marketing Federation GCMMF, which markets the iconic Amul brand, has introduced its flagship fresh milk across Spain, marking the beginning of its European journey.

The official launch was held at the Embassy of India in Madrid, attended by prominent dignitaries including Dinesh K Patnaik, Indian Ambassador to Spain, along with senior officials from Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture. The product rollout begins in Madrid and Barcelona, and will soon extend to cities like Malaga, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, Córdoba, and even Lisbon in Portugal.

Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of GCMMF, shared the vision behind this expansion. “This association will ensure all our Spanish consumers will be nourished and energised with the goodness of Amul Milk. This is the first time Amul fresh milk is being launched in Europe, and it reflects the honourable Prime Minister’s vision of taking Amul global.”

Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno, President of COVAP, welcomed the partnership by highlighting its mutual benefits. “This collaboration supports dairy farmers in both Spain and India. It merges COVAP’s advanced processing capabilities and quality milk with Amul’s strong global brand.”

This alliance stands as a powerful example of cooperative strength with a global vision. Founded in 1959, COVAP consists of more than 2,000 farmer members and processes over 400 million litres of milk every year. Its dairy exports already reach more than 30 countries including the United States and the United Kingdom.

Amul, on the other hand, is the largest farmer owned dairy cooperative in the world. It represents 3.6 million farmers, processes over 12 billion litres annually, runs 112 dairy plants, and has crossed a turnover of 11 billion US dollars. It ranks as the eighth largest milk processor globally.

The European launch is only the beginning. Amul is now eyeing expansion into Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and other European markets in the coming months. The move is in sync with the United Nations’ International Year of Cooperatives in 2025 and showcases the potential of cooperative-led global growth.

Amul’s presence in Spain and Portugal is more than a business step. It represents India’s expanding influence in global food markets and the growing recognition of cooperative farming as a sustainable and impactful model. With this alliance, Amul is not just delivering fresh milk to Europe but also sharing a story of farmer empowerment, quality commitment, and international cooperation.
