Netflix has appointed Vamsi Murthy as Senior Director of Marketing for India, adding a seasoned entertainment marketer to its leadership bench as competition intensifies across the streaming ecosystem.
Murthy announced the move on LinkedIn, expressing excitement about leading Netflix’s marketing charter in one of its most dynamic global markets. He was previously Executive Director and Head of Marketing at JioStar, where he worked on shaping the platform’s consumer marketing strategy across premium fiction and non-fiction content.
Across a career spanning nearly 20 years, Murthy has worked with BookMyShow, ZEE5, Myntra, MakeMyTrip, Reliance Communications, and Radio Mirchi — giving him a rare cross-category lens on how digital behaviour, fandom, and content consumption evolve at scale.
At Netflix, his mandate will focus on strengthening cultural relevance, accelerating subscriber engagement, driving content-led brand love, and deepening the platform’s connection across Indian audiences.
His appointment comes at a time when Netflix is expanding its slate of Indian originals, doubling down on global-local crossover titles, and reimagining how marketing connects storytelling with fandom. Murthy’s prior work — from building buzz for large-scale originals to elevating brand equity across genres — positions him to push Netflix India’s next phase of growth.

With competition from Disney+ Hotstar, JioCinema, Prime Video, and emerging local players, the streaming landscape is in its most aggressive era yet. Marketing leadership that understands both entertainment IP and audience behaviour is becoming central to differentiation.
Murthy’s move to Netflix signals the platform’s intent to scale sharper, culture-forward, emotionally resonant marketing designed for India’s fragmented yet high-growth content economy.
