Mumbai is preparing to host a new global climate action platform in 2026 with the launch of Mumbai Climate Week. As part of the build up, organisers have introduced the Mumbai Climate Week Innovation Challenge, a multi stage programme designed to accelerate breakthrough climate solutions that can scale across India and the wider Global South. The initiative will run with the National Stock Exchange of India as innovation challenge partner.
Mumbai Climate Week is scheduled for 17 to 19 February 2026 at the Jio World Convention Centre. The event is an initiative of Project Mumbai in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Invitations have been extended to climate action leaders from around the world, with the aim of turning the city into a festival of solutions driven conversations.
The Mumbai Climate Week Innovation Challenge will focus on ideas in mitigation, adaptation and resilience. Startups, students, researchers, non profits, civil society organisations, innovators and climate entrepreneurs from India and participating nations are invited to apply. Selected participants will test, refine and showcase high impact concepts, culminating in a live showcase at Mumbai Climate Week.
Organisers have invited the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, to inaugurate the week, underlining the ambition to position the platform as a significant node in the global climate calendar.

The event is supported by a broad coalition of partners, including the Government of Maharashtra’s Majhi Vasundhara initiative, the municipal corporation, Monitor Deloitte, HT Parekh Foundation, India Climate Collaborative, Shakti Foundation, WRI India, UNICEF, Rainmatter Foundation, Mahindra Group, Climate Group, NGMA and other knowledge institutions, climate networks, policy bodies, funders and Indian organisations.
Project Mumbai is structuring Mumbai Climate Week as a citizen led effort, with a strong emphasis on actionable solutions across the city. Discussions will range from the Mumbai Climate Action Plan to explorations of cinema and climate, food and climate, sports, art and healthcare. Colleges and National Service Scheme volunteers will also be drawn into the action plan to broaden participation.
Project Mumbai founder and chief executive Shishir Joshi says the week is committed to building platforms that turn ideas into action. The partnership with NSE, he notes, strengthens the ability to identify and support solutions that help cities and communities adapt, innovate and build resilience at scale. By bringing together innovators, investors, grassroots practitioners, community voices, technical experts and policymakers, the platform aims to unlock meaningful pathways for impact across the region.
NSE managing director and chief executive Ashishkumar Chauhan frames Mumbai Climate Week as arriving at a defining moment in India’s journey toward net zero by 2070. He highlights the scale of climate finance needed across national commitments and development phases and points to market driven instruments, from electricity futures to sustainable bond frameworks and planned carbon products, as enablers of this transition.

The Innovation Challenge will guide participants through capacity building sessions, masterclasses, technical mentoring and structured jury evaluations. A dedicated investor forum on the final day will enable direct engagement with capital providers. Finalists will gain visibility at the solutions exhibition arena, where they can present ideas to policymakers, funders, industry leaders and global networks and explore pilots, partnerships and agreements.
By moving promising innovations through a structured pipeline from ideation to deployment, Mumbai Climate Week aims to ensure that citizen led climate action is backed by credible, scalable solutions with a clear path to real world impact.
