Transforming Train Travel with Food Delivery
Train journeys in India are about to become more convenient and enjoyable. MakeMyTrip has partnered with Zomato to bring on-train food delivery services to passengers, allowing them to access a vast range of meal options from thousands of restaurants across the country. By integrating this feature into its ticket booking system, MakeMyTrip is reshaping how passengers experience food during travel, making it easier, more reliable, and more enjoyable.
Meeting the Rising Demand for E-Catering
The timing of this partnership aligns with the growing demand for e-catering services on Indian Railways. In the financial year 2024 to 2025, more than 90,000 passengers used e-catering every day, reflecting a 66 percent year-on-year increase. This surge highlights how travellers increasingly prefer pre-booked, high-quality meals rather than depending on uncertain station vendors. MakeMyTrip’s new Food on Train feature taps directly into this demand, offering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks all bookable through the Live Train Status tool.
Wide Network and Seamless Integration
The collaboration brings Zomato’s vast restaurant network directly to passengers’ seats. With more than 40,000 restaurant partners across 130 railway stations, the variety of cuisines and travel-friendly options ensures that every passenger can find something they like. Meals can be pre-booked up to seven days in advance using PNR details, giving travellers peace of mind and convenience before boarding.

Festive Value and Special Promotions
To mark the launch, MakeMyTrip has added festive cheer by rolling out a Diwali promotion. Passengers booking train tickets will receive a complimentary coupon that can be redeemed on food orders placed through Zomato. This initiative not only celebrates the festive season but also encourages passengers to try out the service, making journeys more memorable and enjoyable.
Industry Leaders on the Partnership
Raj Rishi Singh, Chief Business Officer and Chief Marketing Officer at MakeMyTrip, shared that the brand has consistently grown faster than the overall train booking industry by prioritising customer-centric innovations. He highlighted that the Food on Train Marketplace is another step toward enhancing the travel experience by offering greater choice and convenience.
Rahul Gupta, Vice President of Product at Zomato, echoed this sentiment, saying that the partnership reflects Zomato’s commitment to making customer experiences seamless. He emphasised the excitement of enabling passengers to enjoy meals from their favourite restaurants delivered directly to their seats, making long train journeys more comfortable and satisfying.
Shaping the Future of Train Travel
With this integration, MakeMyTrip and Zomato are not just providing food delivery but transforming the way passengers think about train journeys in India. No longer limited to pantry cars or quick bites at stations, travellers now have access to a wide range of restaurant-quality meals with the ease of digital booking and assured delivery. As festive campaigns roll out and awareness grows, this collaboration is set to become a benchmark for customer convenience in the country’s mobility ecosystem.
